Just in time for Halloween, the Pacific Opera Project has three more performances of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony award-winning musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

POP is concluding its first full season. Artistic Director Josh Shaw and Music Director Stephen are “committed to fully professional productions of worthy masterpieces and daring new works of opera and musical theater produced with artists of the highest caliber in diverse venues.”

“We want to have people who’ve never seen opera before to see that it’s not just fat people standing in one place singing, and not like Bugs Bunny cartoons,” said Shaw in an interview with Carl Kozlowski of the Pasadena Weekly. The production is accompanied by a live orchestra.

The waning days of October, with the accompaniment of All Hallow’s Eve, is a perfect time for this staple of Victorian melodrama. Go ahead—indulge in a taste of “Sweeney Todd.”
