Need a little family bonding time post-feast and football? Or a place to walk off some of that turkey? How about exploring museums—for free? Or, if you’re in a Black Friday mood, there’s no better place to find clever gifts and unusual holiday decor than the gift shop at any of our local museums—and you can bet they’ll be less frantic, and way hipper, than at the mall.
All of that can be accomplished this weekend, Friday, November 25 through Sunday, November 27. If you’re a member of any of 20 local museums (and chances are you are a member of at least one of them), you not only get free admission to ANY of the others but also get 20% off anything you buy in any of the gift stores. Books, greeting cards, calendars, tchotchkes, toys, totebags, housewares, ornaments, clothing—you could do all your holiday shopping while enjoying a little cultural time in museums from San Diego to the San Gabriel Valley.
The Pasadena-area museums included are the Pacific Asia Museum, the Norton Simon, Kidspace, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Heritage Square (open Saturday and Sunday only) and the Pasadena Museum of History.
This reciprocal admission and discount program is only this weekend, and it’s a remarkable way for museum-lovers to expand their horizons, support their museums, and get a little something special in return. You can join the museum you want to start with on the spot if you’re not already a member. Information on opening times and all participating institutions are on the on the museum websites we’ve linked to.
And remember: Museum memberships make great gifts!
