The Mercury News (in Silicon Valley, no less, not a SoCal paper), via Associated Press, reports that long-haul trucker Marcos Barbosa Costa was rearrested on Friday and charged with murder. He had originally been charged with vehicular manslaughter and was out on bail; he’s now back in jail with a much larger bail. On April 1, Costa lost control of his truck coming down Angeles Crest Highway, killing a 12-year-old girl and her father, as well as injuring others and all but destroying Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse, which sits on Foothill Boulevard at the base of Angeles Crest Highway.

Meanwhile, we’re happy to see the progress in construction at Flintridge Bookstore. The store is still open, in a trailer in the parking lot in back, and they’re doing a fine job in a limited space. They’ll be moving back into the original store in July, and they’re looking for teen volunteers (community-service hours available!) to help move books. Go to the website for details.
