Market on Holly Opening Shindig

May 7, 2011

L to R: partner/chef Mary Pat Brandmeyer, owner Marty Davich, Carrie Davich and Clare Tayback, president of the Armory Center for the Arts board

On Thursday night, it became official: The Market on Holly is now open for business. The  joint venture by composer Marty Davich (our neighbor in Prospect Park) and caterer Mary Pat Brandmeyer (a longtime Altadenan) drew a big crowd to its grand opening party, which spilled onto the sidewalk (where a jazz band played) and into the adjacent un-leased space. Among the many people in attendance were folks from the Armory Center for the Arts (just around the corner) and the Levitt Pavilion, on whose board Davich serves. Both nonprofits are recipients of some of the proceeds from the Market’s first month in business.

Hungry folks load up at the party's buffet.

With a goal of becoming the Joan’s on Third (or Dean & Deluca) of Pasadena, the market/café in the Raymond Renaissance building is now serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon menus (including wine and beer), as well as all sorts of takeout prepared dishes and upscale market items. They’re bringing in cheeses from Europe, coffee from Stumptown in Portland and olive oil from Italy, but they’re sourcing locally for jams, baked goods, organic produce and eggs.

This is a family affair—right next door is Maude Woods, the gift/home store owned by Davich’s wife, designer Carrie Davich. So you can buy yourself a serving platter, then walk next door and pick up the food to serve on it!
