Loving Our Trees

Dec 20, 2011

Our city of Pasadena lost close to 1,100 trees during the hurricane-force windstorm. Additionally, some 70 trees were seriously damaged in local parks; their chances of survival are currently being assessed.

The Pasadena Community Foundation is teaming up with Pasadena Beautiful Foundation and has established the Windstorm Tree Fund to raise money to buy and plant replacement trees on city property.

PCF will match up to $10,000 in donations, and organizers emphasize that “every penny donated will be used for the sole purpose of planting new trees.”

“We all treasure the beauty of our city, and trees are an essential part of that,” says City Manager Michael Beck. “Without us having to ask, these two organizations saw the need and came to the city and offered their help. In a time of very tight budgets, this kind of support from our residents is especially welcome and we’re very grateful.”

The average cost to replace a tree is $350. Gifts of any amount are welcome, and donations are tax-deductible.
