In 2010, sisters Susan Cherney, a former CPA, and Wendy Moss, a retired attorney, came up with the idea of Inside the Story, “a unique venture where culture-loving people meet for programs and lectures in a wide range of exciting and thought-provoking subjects.”
Some of these programs take place in Susan and Wendy’s home in Pasadena, while others are field trips to museums, art galleries, and private artist studios.
Past events have included “The Art of Conducting” with L.A. music critic Mark Swed, “The Music of the Beatles” with USC musicologist Carlos Rivera, “Love in Art” and “Degas in Los Angeles” with art historian and former Getty curator Charlotte Eyerman, Mark Twain with UCLA professor Charles Lynn Batten, and David Ulin has conducted a series on the art of the short story, the art of the essay, Maus, the Book of Daniel and Mildred Pierce.
Next on the schedule is “The Art and Alchemy of Perfume” on two Fridays, March 15th and 22nd.
“Last seats remaining for a fascinating melding of the artistic, the historic, the sensual, and the scientific! Please join acclaimed author, journalist, former Fulbright scholar and, last but not least, secret perfumista Denise Hamilton for a 2-part exploration of the mysterious art of perfume making.”
Part one will be a lecture “with scents to sniff,” while Part II will be a field trip to Scent Bar. Upcoming events include exploring american carfts and decorative arts with a studio visit to ceramics artist Anna Silver, “Drama and Devotion” with artist and schollar Zhenya Gershman and a visit to the Getty to see Maerten Heemskerck’s Ecce Homo triptych alterpiece (1544), and “Einstein for Everyone” with former Harvard Physics Professor Robert Piccioni.
