How lucky am I? Yesterday afternoon I walked a fraction of a block to the grand opening of the Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse. Just when I had given up hope that anything would be built on the site of the long-abandoned service station at the top of the street, Peter and Lenora Wannier purchased the property and fought hard to fulfill their dream of creating a first-class independent bookstore. They made the most of a small lot by creating an airy, sunlight-filled space that includes gifts, a cafe, an Espresso Book Machine and underground parking.
Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s the perfect addition to the heart of our town. I’m especially happy for the Wanniers because they accomplished this after a car carrier smashed through their prior location and put a big dent in their business.
