Book People Honors

Feb 22, 2010

Boy, does this town have a lot of great writers. Just in the last few weeks alone, two of our own have earned national honors for their work. The most recent was children’s book illustrator and author Marla Frazee, whose new book (with Liz Garton Scanlon) All the Word just earned a 2010 Caldecott Honor Award. Shortly before that, Altadena’s Michelle Huneven made the short list for the National Book Critics Circle award. Her new novel, Blame, is one of five finalists for best fiction 2009; the winner will be announced in early March.

On top of that, terrific new books are flying out of local authors, including Greg Critser, Liza Palmer, Ian Whitcomb, Victoria Patterson, Naomi Hirahara, Michele Zack and Jim Krusoe, to name just a few.

Maybe it’s the view of the San Gabriels that inspires them, or maybe it’s the dumplings in San Gabriel. Whatever it is, we’re happy to call them neighbors.

And, you truly are just mentioning some who have new books out.
A supply of good writers demands a great indie bookstore!

My preference is for food writers of course!
