One night. Two parties. It’s your Big Night Out.
Party #1: The Big Night Out Gala Kick-Off Reception at the home of Drs. Carmen Puliafito and Janet Pine, with silent and live auctions, food stations with hors d’oeuvres by Pasadena restaurants and caterers, and hosted bars.
Party #2: After the reception, most guests disperse to one of twelve dinner parties. When purchasing tickets, guests select their top 4 choices and on arrival learn of their placement.
One dinner is called “Jazzy Night” and will be held poolside with live jazz, and a local sommelier will pair wines to the farm-to-table organic delicacies. “A Night in Spain Under the Stars” will be hosted by Sacha Malin and Dori Levanoni in a 1929 Spanish Revival where the dinner will be served al fresco amidst twinkling lights and candles.
For something completely different, how about “Blues & Barbecue at the Car Barn” with an old fashioned southern BBQ in the recently converted auto repair shop that now houses the owner’s auto collection—available for viewing—along with classic Steve McQueen movies playing in the background. On the other end of the spectrum is the white tie dinner party “An Evening at Rolls Royce” to be held at the RR “salon” in Pasadena with a 5-course gourmet menu and wine pairings “after you sip your Dom Perignon in a Phantom Ghost Drophead Coupe.”
This year’s honoree is Tena Clark, founder of DMI Music & Media Solutions, who programs the President’s music for Air Force One (yes, music for the President of the United States of America). She has also written and produced for Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, and Patti LaBelle. Clark was executive producer for Natalie Cole’s Still Unforgettable, for which Cole received two Grammy awards. In participating in ASC’s Big Night Out Gala, Clark is honoring her dear friend Tony Warren, by whom she stood for two years during his fight against AIDS. “He was not lucky enough, at that time (1980s), to have an organization such as AIDS Service Center,” a “lighthouse of hope for so many.”
Aids Service center focuses on providing housing assistance to people in need who are living with HIV; HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and outreach. “Our humble beginnings (25 years ago) as an answering machine in the basement under the stairwell of All Saints Church was in response to the community’s need to seek answers to a new illness.”
