2016 Showcase Peek

Apr 10, 2016

IMG_1125There are still a few tarps here and there, a plastic chair that’s obviously not part of the final staging, an empty light switch looking for a new cover, and a massive “something” waiting to  be unwrapped and displayed near the outdoor pool and putting green. Other than those few dangling threads, the 2016 Showcase House of Design—a 1918 Mission Revival optioned for a second time in the Showcase limelight—is ready for its closeup.

Wealthy New York City restaurateur Leon C. Riggs purchased the vacant parcels, totaling 8.56 acres, in late 1917 from the Oak Lodge Land & Water Company. He built the home as a winter retreat for his wife Julia Edith Percy and their adopted daughter Helen; however, soon after its completion, he sold it to the family of Alexander Dryburgh, who named the estate Dryborough Hall. (Official text)

This 16,000 square foot home has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, while the guest house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and two eating areas (2,032 square feet). The residence had its debut as a Showcase House in 1987.

Primarily, we’re going to share only a sneak peak, numerous close-ups in order to wet the appetite and prompt a ticket purchase, but we thought a few before and after shots would be fun as well. And though it may seem as though we’ve included an overabundance of pictures, like a movie preview that’s too long and giving away the plot, these images don’t even begin to reveal the full effect.
