The Huntington Collection

Jul 31, 2010

The higher end of the clothing at this upscale thrift store benefiting Huntington Hospital is set off from the rest of the merchandise and is well worth some serious exploration. You’ll find some designer labels (Calvin Klein, I. Magnin) mixed in with some Talbots basics. This is a great source for affordable but quality used furniture, glassware, dishes, linens, books, jewelry and one-of-a-kind gifts.

Staples: Antiques, housewares, home decor, tableware.

Don’t Miss: The wedding dresses.

We Like: The higher-end fashion, the lucky-break furniture finds, and supporting the good cause.

I’m a little put out with the Huntington Collection lately.

They have ventured into an elitist merchandising plan,
where only those who don’t really need to wear vintage/thrift store clothing can afford their wares.
Seriously, do they really need to charge $35+ for a 15 year old cotton sun dress,
when we can easily find a more contemporary and unworn version for less at Marshall’s?

I would like to point your thrifting nose in the direction of the Treasure Fair Thrift shop that the Assistance League runs out on Foothill on the east side of town.
It’s got the same labels with a remarkable ‘fixed’ price for most.
Their ’boutique’ items are few, generally with tags under $20.
