When I was in kindergarten, I had two favorite after-school activities: playing Hungry Hungry Hippo and redrawing my hopscotch court. My hopscotch chalk drawings didn’t cease until tetherball hit the schoolyard in second grade. If only I had known there was a future in chalk drawings—some of these 3-D projects are incredible. On Saturday, December 18, professional chalk artists will be leading a workshop at the Kidspace Chalk Festival, where kids can explore the science of chalk while creating sidewalk masterpieces. In addition to a fingerpaint-free art project, this hands-on experience will include storytime with “Flutterby the Butterfly.” The only downside is that you don’t get to take the slab of cement home with you.
Saturday, December 18, 11a.m, 1p.m., & 4p.m.
Workshop fee: $5
