The Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers is having an open house on Wednesday and this upcoming weekend.
The club “currently operates a large HO-scale layout of a fictional railroad known as the Highland Pacific.”
Founded in 1948 and currently supported by 30 members, the club has a principle goal of constructing fun-to-operate model railroads.
Remembering back to a grandfather’s classic, detailed model trains that were set up on the mantle at Christmastime or a father’s large outdoor-sized plastic, brightly colored trains that wound through villages and a mother’s side garden, we know first hand that model train aficionados are knowledgeable, passionate, and—most definitely—were born with the DNA for fun and play.
The Highland Park layout has mainline trains, peddler freights, locals and commuter trains, modern and legacy trains, steam and diesel motive power. They also have a fully operational Centralized Traffic Control system, digital floor towers and operations center.
For complete satisfaction, it might be helpful to tap into your little 6-year-old self.
All are welcome.
