Marla Frazee’s Star Shines at Vroman’s

Nov 7, 2011

Illustrator and two-time Caldecott Honor winner Marla Frazee will be presenting and signing her newest book, Stars, this Friday at Vroman’s.

Authored by Mary Lyn Ray, Stars is a “tender, evocative and profound” exploration of the stars beyond our reach, as well as those “stars” closer to home. A cast of junior philosophers ponder the stars as elements, symbols, attractions, and mysteries, whether it be while sitting on a fence or blowing dandelions into the wind.

Frazee takes Ray’s prose (“her mind at play,” says Publishers Weekly) and shows how stars can enliven our moods and our lives, stimulate our creativity, and serve as a constant reminder of our wondrous and vast universe. Kirkus Reviews says Frazee “excels  at illustrating textual details in fresh ways, keeping young children engaged and curious” and that “her pictures ebb and flow with the text.”

New York Times reviewer Pamela Paul wrote, “Does anyone illustrate the facial expressions, postures and movements of children with the same gloriously authentic exuberance as Marla Frazee?”

Stars is ideal for children aged 2-6.
