Dinosaur Puppets at Levitt

Jul 12, 2010

Mammoth Follies 300x199 Dinosaur Puppets at Levitt puppets Music Under the Stars Levitt Pavilion kid friendly dinosaurs photoOne night a week of Levitt Pavilion’s free summer concert series is devoted to the little ones who walk amongst us. No, not sock gnomes, but children. We’ll be spotlighting these weekly offerings in this space all summer long, so keep your eyes peeled—you never know where the next Raffi might come from.

Yes, it’s puppets again this week, but they’re dinosaur puppets. Giant dinosaur puppets. Educational dinosaur puppets, like Barney, but without the accompanying nausea. From 1984 to 1998, The Mammoth Follies consumed the lives of the performers of Hudson Vagabond Puppets. Then the show went extinct—until now! Join host Willie Mammoth and his friends (and predators) Smiley the Saber-Toothed Tiger, Bessie the Apatosaurus, Tony and Trixie Triceratops, Terry the Pterodactyl and T. Rex (strangely devoid of nickname) for a musical romp through the annals of reptilian prehistory. Borrowing heavily from the Japanese Bunraku style, this is not your creepy great-uncle’s puppet show.
