Tagalongs? Samoas? Do-Si-Dos?

Which is your favorite? Or do these names mean nothing to you? If so, then let us welcome you into the wild, wild world and consumption of Girl Scout Cookies.

The hard sell is on and folding tables covered with a green tablecloths and holding stacks, piles, and pyramids of Girl Scout Cookies are just outside the doors of Vons, Ralphs, Vroman’s, a hardware store, the dry cleaners—or on any corner not already taken. Handfuls of excited, energetic girls shower shoppers with requests—just four bucks a box! Before you know it, that twenty dollar bill in your pocket has vanished and your walking to your car with four boxes (and umpteen calories and grams of fat), which probably won’t last out the day.

One of our friends said that her child and fellow Girl Scouts were trying to sell 2,000 boxes of cookies in hopes of winning an iPad. Two thousand boxes? Isn’t that a full-time job? Goodness knows, we’ve done our best, but our muffin tops are finally saying no to another Thin Mint, Trefoil (shortbread), or Thanks-a-Lot (shortbread with a bottom of fudge).

But if you and your young ‘uns have not hit your ceiling, Trattoria Neapolis on South Lake is offering some creative treats as they partner with Troop 14201 who will use their cookie proceeds to support Families in Transition (a nonprofit organization providing services to homeless students in Pasadena schools) and the Pasadena Humane Society.

First on the Girl Scout Cookie menu is Neapolis’ own toasted coconut gelato sandwiched between two Samoans. Then along comes the new Tagalong Torta, which has a Do-Si-Do cookie crust, peanut butter mousse, dark chocolate ganache, blueberry sorbetto and Tagalong crumble. These are available at the trattoria for general consumption for a limited time.
