The Jewels of Glendale

Sep 27, 2011

For those you who can’t get enough of historic homes, Sunday, October 2nd is a day to set aside.

The Glendale Historical Society is offering its annual fall home tour, this year entitled Glendale Gems. Five homes listed on the local Register of Historic Resources will be honored. One of these will be Castle House, which was built in 1926—as a speculative venture. Now, it’s an historic landmark. The others include a 1936 Spanish Colonial Revival with art deco influences and an elegant 1936 American Revival home designed by Glendale’s own Merrill W. Baird. And to start you off in the right mood, the tour begins at the grand El Miradero mansion, built in 1904 and located at 1601 Mountain Street.

Stroll with hands clasped behind your back, eyes moving from one delightful detail to another. Take your time on this Sunday and savor the history and workmanship we are so lucky have right in our back yard.
