Looking to take a stroll or power walk this weekend? Why not do it in the name of multiple sclerosis?
The National MS Society is hosting a day of events starting with a 5K walk around the Rose Bowl this Sunday, with opening ceremonies beginning at 9:30.
Following the walk, the “finish festival” with have various food offerings, music, jugglers, face painters, team booths and give-a-ways.
The day’s special guest will by Kristie Salerno Kent, a singer and entertainer with MS and a prominent patient advocate. Her focus is helping people fulfill their dreams despite having this incurable disease and informing others what it’s like to live with the disease on a daily basis. She’ll be based at the Ampyra booth so people can meet her.
In 2006, Salerno Kent released her first album “Believe,” which features songs she’d written as she started treatment for her MS and exploring the journey along the way since. In 2007, she made a short film “The Show Must Go On,” where she talks about her ms, then visits a mall and has patrons take a moment to walk in her shoes.
