Sip to Support Sierra Madre Library

Feb 15, 2010

Think Moby Dick and a great white wine. A glass of Chianti and The Godfather. Cannery Row and a Viognier from Monterey.  See how wonderfully wine and great library books mix? Sierra Madre’s library supporters agree and bring the two together this Friday at the annual  fundraiser.

For 40 years, the Friends of the Library have been gathering at the Villa (that’s Alverno High School’s historic, gorgeous administration building) to sip, nosh and support their public library at the Wine and Cuisine Tasting. This year’s event is February 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Dozens of vineyards, wineries and winesellers from around the state, including Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Robert Mondavi Winery, Deutsch Wines, Onehope Wine) as well as winemakers from Argentina, Spain, and Australia are sending bottles of red, white and sparkly. Their representatives will be on tap for your tasting pleasure; they’ll take orders for bottles (and ticketholders may get a discount at local liquor store The Bottle Shop).

Food tastings are offered by local favorites including Green Street, Nicky C’s and The Charcuterie, with Noir Wine Bar providing a special food and wine pairing. Check out the silent auction for a bargain on original artwork, premium wines, exclusive winery tours and such. Entertainment includes guitarists and a special visit from Zorro, star of Sierra Madre’s 2010 One City, One Book reading program.

Proceeds go to the Sierra Madre Public Library (440 West Sierra Madre Blvd.) for acquisitions, services and programs and to fund improvements to the building and grounds. Tickets at $60 each are available at the library, and up and down Sierra Madre Boulevard at The Bottle Shop,  Arnold’s  Frontier Hardware,  Iris Intrigue,  The Charcuterie, Savor the Flavor, Sierra Madre Books,  and online at the Friend’s ticket page.  For questions, call the chairs, Pat and De Alcorn, at 626. 355. 4793.
