This Saturday is the annual big cleanup of the Los Angeles River and its tributaries, including the Arroyo Seco. Friends of the LA River have organized cleanups at 14 locations; our local one is being handled by the Arroyo Seco Foundation, with sponsorship from Whole Foods. The location is a lovely stretch of the lower Arroyo Seco, just south of the big bridges, where many of us walkers, joggers and dog lovers frequent.
To reach the site, you’ll have to walk a half-mile or so from the meeting spot in the Aquatic Center parking lot, but it’s a lovely walk on a flat trail. You’ll be picking up trash while being serenaded by the Bluegrass Billionaires on what promises to be a gorgeous spring day.
I have to be out of town and cannot help, so as an Arroyo Seco regular, I thank those of you who can make the effort this weekend.
