October is domestic violence awareness month. Foothill Family Service, a Pasadena-based organization providing counseling and social services since 1926, offers up two alarming statistics:
— One in four California women experiences domestic violence in her lifetime
— Boys who witness domestic violence as children are twice as likely to abuse their own partners when they become adults.
Foothill Family Service hopes to diminish these numbers via Domestic Violence and Treatment programs that focus on recovery from the effects of violence and changing abusive behavior and attitudes. Survivors may be eligible for the CalWORKS Domestic Violence Program, which serves 468 women and children.
