What does it take to care for a community? How about some Lawry’s seasoning salt and a couple of windshields and canopies?
Translation: the Frank family, owners of Lawry’s Foods, Inc., and Oswald “Ozzie” Llamas of Llamas Plastics.
The local branch of the nonprofit Hathaway-Sycamores is holding its awards reception on Thursday, September 20th, honoring the Frank family and Llamas Plastics for their “integrity, leadership, and commitment to the well-being of children, adults, and communities.”
Family matriarch Mary Alice Frank joined the agency’s Board of Directors in the 1980’s, followed by her son Richard Frank. The family has also supported many agency fundraisers including the Shot-at-a-Million Golf Classic and Dinners From the Heart. The Frank family will be presented with the Celebrating Children Individual Award.
Receiving the Celebrating Children Business Award will be Llamas Plastics that manufactures windshields, canopies and components for commercial and military aircraft. For over 20 years, employees of Llamas Plastics have been playing Santa for the children cared for by Hathaway-Sycamores. One of the evening’s speakers will be Selenia Lagos who successfully came through H-S’ Vocational Internship Program (VIP), which provides support services and job training for teens who are leaving the foster-care system. Llamas Plastics has employed six VIP teens, including Lagos who joined the company this past March as an office assistant.
This annual fundraising event will be held at a “picturesque” La Cañada Flintridge residence, be emceed by MUSE/IQUE Artistic Director and conductor Rachael Worby, and will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, thanks to Lawry’s Restaurants (naturally).
