Bring Your Zest for Life

Oct 4, 2011

Though the bones may ache, the knees may creak, and the arthritis may flare (and we haven’t even reached the half a century mark!), nothing motivates like a dose of inspiration.

Join the Pasadena Senior Center on October 22nd to celebrate those with a Zest for Life Galalike the #1 world tennis champion for ages 75+ and eight-time International Tennis Federation world champion Dorothy Mathiessen, the honoree at the gala. She began playing tennis in her late 30s and has been among the top senior players ever since. This last July, she won the USTA National Women’s 65 & 75 Indoor Championships by a score of 6-3 7-6(3). Over 75 and playing tiebreakers is impressive—and her grass-court championship win this year went three sets. She’s also a devoted volunteer for Westridge School and the Bancroft Library atCal Berkeley.

The evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies is known to many: Stephanie Edwards, co-host of the Tournament of Roses Parade, who began her engagement with this event back in 1978. She says she passionately supports Zest for Life as she is now herself a “fellow traveler through the golden years.”

Gala guests will begin with cocktails and a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing. Auction items include a condo stay in Maui, a Stephanie Edwards behind-the-scenes Rose Parade package and tickets to the Tonight Show. Additionally, an once-in-a-lifetime Opportunity Drawing offers a Pasadena Police helicopter ride!

Garner your Zest for Life and enjoy a fun, inspiring evening with all proceeds benefiting the programs and services of the Pasadena Senior Center, Southern California’s longest-serving private nonprofit senior center.
