With the school year quickly approaching, notebooks, crayons and pencils are in high demand. We all know how necessary these items are for kids to do their schoolwork, but all too often, the flailing economy and unstable living situations rob children from the thrill of this most basic ritual of a good education: back-to-school shopping. But you can help.
Friends of Foothill Family Services, a nonprofit that focuses on the support of San Gabriel Valley families in need, run the annual “Backpacks for Brighter Futures“ program, providing Foothill Family Service client students with backpacks filled with school supplies. They’ve put out the call for volunteers to help at a backpack-stuffing party at Club West Volleyball in Pasadena. Lunch will be provided and three-hour shifts will be assigned from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before you take your own kids out for their back-to-school shopping, consider a family outing to help other kids in our community.
