Adopt-A-Family Needs Support

Foothill Family Service recently kicked off its annual Adopt-A-Family Program for local families in need who are receiving treatment from their facilities.

For a family receiving mental health treatment, often to overcome trauma, violence, or abuse, the holidays can be a particularly difficult time. FFS matches low-income client families with a donor who will help them by providing clothing, household items, and grocery gift cards. The size of the family—from 2 to 8+ family members—can be determined by the donor and they are provided with information about the family, such as favorite colors, sizes, and interests, and the items most needed. Donors purchase, wrap and deliver the gifts to FFS and they will bring them to the family in time for a holiday celebration.

Anyone interested could also host a Holiday Giving Tree by purchasing a tree to display and decorating it with “wish ornaments” provided by FFS, or maybe host a Toy Drive by posting a “wish list” of items most requested by FFS families.

Families, school groups, businesses, book clubs, scout groups, and church groups can all “adopt” a family for the holidays.

In past years, Foothill Family Service has had their sponsors already in place by this point, but this year this is not so—and they could really use help. They’re looking for an additional 20+ individuals, families or groups to help this holiday season feel like a holiday season for a local family without the resources to do it themselves.

And Happy Holidays to all.
