Blame Sally

Free Music Under the Stars rolls on. This week’s lineup is especially potent. Thursday it’s Blame Sally, a Bay Area phenomenon who’ve been compared to Jane Siberry, the Indigo Girls and The Joy of Cooking (?), which is a roundabout way of saying they are folk rockers. Friday it’s Adele Jacques/Paris Loves L.A. doing the songs of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigette Bardot in “cabaret style revival”—because there’s no such thing as too much ’60s French pop culture. Saturday it’s Very Be Careful, a veteran Colombian Vallenato quintet based out of L.A. They’ve been around the block a few times—their most recent CD, Horrible Club, is a collection of bootlegs drawn from more than eleven years of live shows. Rounding out the week is Estaire Godinez, a smoldering vocalist and drummer who fuses jazz, pop, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban styles into something Fred could definitely get down to. Boogie onward.
