The Intimate Opera of Pasadena

Dec 12, 2010

This man loves Christmas.

The Intimate Opera of Pasadena, in addition to having a good name, has also found a good home: the Pasadena Playhouse, where they will be making their debut this weekend, from the 16th to the 19th, with an intimate production of Amahl and the Night Visitors, a one act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti about a disabled young liar, Amahl, living near Bethlehem just after the birth of Christ, who has a late night encounter with the Magi. In addition to a performance of this neglected Christmas classic, the IOP has retained the services of Malcolm McDowell, probably best known as Alex, to narrate Dylan Thomas’s A Child’s Christmas in Wales. A good alternative to the overabundance of Nutcracking Messiashs out there.
