The Art of Romance — and Food

Jan 18, 2010

Venus y Cupido, by Esau Andrade

For 23 years, the Folk Tree has heralded Valentine’s Day with a Hearts & Flowers art exhibition, which runs from late January to late February. Love is always the theme; this year’s show will feature works by some 50 artists (including Esau Andrade, Kina Clay, Sumi Foley, Sandra Gallegos and Kathi Oshima): jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, paintings, fiber and more. Out of love at the moment? No problem: Plenty of artists explore the dark side of the heart.

The show kicks off with a Valentine’s party on Saturday afternoon. Most of the artists will be there, as will our own Colleen Dunn Bates, who will be signing copies of the new and bestselling book EAT: Los Angeles 2010 –The Food Lover’s Guide to L.A. ($19.95).
