The 1908 Racers
The historic Mt. Wilson Trail Race will be held this weekend in Sierra Madre. It is the second oldest race in California, with its first race being held in 1908 – nine men ran seven miles, took a 30-minute break, and then ran back down. Since then, the numbers have grown, with 300 racers each year (the size of the trail does not allow for more runners). The 8.6-mile race is accompanied by a day of festivities, including a kids’ race, a beer garden and the all-important awards ceremony.
