It is nearly impossible to explain the Doo Dah Parade. It is one of those special things in life that you have to see for yourself. The parade tries to distance itself from its proper cousin, the Rose Parade, and there is no question as to whether or not it succeeds.
A look at this year’s lineup begins to explain the glory that is Doo Dah — Grand Marshal Charles Phoenix and Her Majesty Queen Skittles will be presiding over such entries as the Electric Squirrels, Smells Like Flan, Zombies of Debt, Humboldt State Marching Lumberjacks, Photo Ops & Broken Promises, and Tequila Mockingbird. It is with great self restraint that I refrain from listing all the names I’ve found. They are astonishing. This is not to be missed. In fact, the Doo Dah is included in the book 50 Places To See Before You Die. So get on that.
