Worthy charity events fill up the spring calendar in Pasadena like so many poppies, and it’s hard to give them all their due. But we’re singling out one for special attention: the Taste of Art, an art-lover’s party at Gale’s Restaurant. This intensely local event started in 2007 when a group of friends having dinner at Gale’s decided to showcase hometown artists while raising money for an in-our-own-backyard nonprofit. Some of these friends work at Walt Disney Imagineering, so they had access to a rich pool of artists, and the event proved a huge success.
This year it’s back for the third time, and the beneficiary is the Ronald McDonald House. Just a few blocks from Gale’s, this restored Craftsman house provides shelter and comfort for the families of inpatient children at Huntington Hospital. Admission includes cocktails, good wines and a dinner-worthy array of appetizers, as well as the chance to snap up works by both acclaimed and undiscovered artists at low prices — and hang out with a very cool group of people.
