Street Art at the PMCA

From the show.

Between Banksy’s recent visits and MOCA’s new exhibit, graffiti is sort of a thing right now in the Los Angeles art world. The ever-delightful PMCA is getting in on the action with their own graffiti exhibit, Street Cred: Graffiti Art from Concrete to Canvas. Unlike the MOCA show, the PMCA’s exhibit focuses on the graffiti of Los Angeles, which, as one might expect, has a number of idiosyncratic features. In addition to the work of thirty-some artists, the exhibit also contains photographs taken by co-curator and graffiti historian Steve Grody. And, as the title suggest (“…to Canvas”), the exhibit also explores how street art informs canvas work and the intersection of those worlds. Timely and interesting. You have until September 4th to check it out.
