2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, in case you didn’t know, and we can think of no better way to honor it than by getting acquainted with the sky watchers at Carnegie Observatories right here in Pasadena. It’s honoring the year with two events, the first of which is on Sunday: its 8th annual open house, which will include tours, exhibits, films and activities, music and refreshments. You’ll learn all about the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory, which was recently saved in the Station Fire and which Carnegie runs. And you’ll learn about the amazing Giant Magellan telescope now under construction — when it’s finished in 2019, it’ll be far more powerful than any telescope we’ve ever dreamed of.

Sunday, September 20, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
