One wonders how much longer The Food Trucks will draw a crowd. Is there a name yet for a gathering of them, their very own collective noun? Dolphins have pods, hyenas have cackles (despite what HuffPo says), rooks have parliaments—do food trucks have… wagons? Yes. Wagons.
There will be a wagon (or maybe gaggle is better?) of food trucks at Santa Anita Park this Saturday, including some old favorites (Border Grill, Grilled Cheese, Dosa), some newish ones we’d like to try (Lardon Truck (which was in Altadena last week), Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck), and some trucks we’ve never heard of (Dante Fried Chicken, Tapa Boy LA, NaanStop). The full list: Border Grill, Grilled Cheese, South Philly Experience, Baby’s Badass Burgers, Canters, Dosa, Brian’s Comfort Truck, Dogtown Dogs, Knockout Tacos, Yatta, Dante Fried Chicken, No Reservations,Don Chow Tacos, The Sweets Truck, Chunkn’ Chips, Barbies Q, Lobsta Truck, Ragin Cajun, Fresh Fries LA, Lardon, Tapa Boy LA, Crepe’N Around, and NaanStop.
As always with a food truck wagon, the questions are: a) how much am I paying? and b) how long am I waiting? Since it’s a race day at Santa Anita, we’re guessing the $12 entry fee ($7 more than regular general admission) only gets you in the door. There’s a possibility those $12 buy you a grip of vouchers, but since there’s no mention of such anywhere on the promo site, probably not. With so many trucks, however, lines shouldn’t be too bad. And really, when was the last time you were at Santa Anita? Playing the ponies can be a lot of fun, and it’s great people watching.
Oh, and the Spazmatics are playing. Bukowski would be… nonplussed, probably.
