Our favorite hometown children’s book illustrator and author, Marla Frazee, has a marvelous new book out, and she’ll be reading and signing it at Vroman’s on Saturday morning. The Altadena resident partnered with writer Liz Garton Scanlon to create All the World, a graceful, lyrical and gentle read-aloud picture book that celebrates how the whole world is found in the daily life of one extended family. See if you can spot the bit of Pasadena’s City Hall in the illustrations, and yes, those lovely beach scenes were inspired by the Central Coast.
I read All the World while standing around a bunch of adults, and my kids are older teenagers, so I can’t explain why this book made me choke up a little, but it did. Whatever that bit of magic is that makes a children’s book a treasure, this one has.

Marla is so talented; her illustrations really capture something special. Can’t wait to see this one — our all-time favorite is still her “Seven Silly Eaters.” I could (and did) read it over and over. Great gifts for new and budding families – these books will stay with them much longer than a stuffed animal.
