Their last two shows sold out. Their next two probably will as well — not that surprising in a 49-seat venue. So if you have any intention of seeing Barry McGuire and John York when they play the Coffee Gallery Backstage this weekend, you should probably make reservations post haste.
McGuire’s “Trippin’ the ’60s” tour is making its second stop at the Coffee Gallery, again with the aid of mercenary folker York, most famously of the Byrds. Like York’s, McGuire’s career has been meandering — he is probably best known as a star of the original Broadway production of Hair or as the singer-songwriter behind the hit single “Eve of Destruction.” The show promises to be a medley of ’60s hits, sprinkled with commentary and anecdotes. A great chance to hear some of the era’s best music from musicians who served on the front lines.
