For 65 years, Ten Thousand Villages has purchased works from artisans from around the world, providing cash advances, prompt payments, and emphasizing long-term relationships in order for them to have a stable income.
Ten Thousand Villages Pasadena will reveal their winter and holiday fair trade product line at a public reception—and at their newly renovated store—on Friday, November 2nd. Fifteen percent of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Action Kivu, a job training program for women in the Republic of Congo. Donations of $5 or more made during the month of November will lead to a chance to win a handmade quilt from the Pasadena women’s sewing group Uncommon Threads.
“A lot of people come in looking for gifts for their loved ones and they want something that feels special, something that reflects their love and care,” says Sam Bills, manager. “A true artisan puts that care into everything that comes from their hands, and buying fair trade provides a chance to give a meaningful gift that gives twice.”
