The Year of the Tiger will soon be upon us once again — that’s right, this weekend the lunar (i.e. Chinese) new year is upon us. Traditionally, this auspicious occasion is celebrated with tiger maulings for one and all. If getting clawed at by large felines is not your thing, the Huntington is having a big party you can attend without worrying (much) about getting scratched. For the price of admission, you can enjoy lion dancers, a brush-painting demonstration, a shadow-puppet theater, a string and bamboo orchestra, a tai chi demonstration and much more in the way of Chinese music, dance and culture. There will also be a flower market, Penjing displays and, for kids, a scavenger hunt. This is a pretty sweet deal, and a good excuse to celebrate a joyous holiday that Hallmark hasn’t (yet) waged war on.
