Caltech Goes Blue(grass)

Mar 15, 2010

CSB at the Pahrump Bluegrass Festival

The Caltech Folk Music Society continues to showcase the finest grass there is: Bluegrass! This time it’s Chris Stuart and Backcountry, a talented multigenerational outfit. Stuart, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, was nominated the 2009 Songwriter of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (or SPBGMA for … short). Janet Beazley plays banjo and sings harmony, Eric Uglum plays lead guitar and mandolin, and his two stepsons, Austin and Christian Ward, play the acoustic bass and the fiddle, respectively — despite their youth, both boys are already in high demand as session players. Here’s a little taste of why.
