Architecture, Community and Hair, Oh My!

Published: Friday, November 13th, 2009

Léon Krier of the excellent hair.

Léon Krier of the excellent hair.

And oh, what hair! Pictured here with coiffure ablaze is Léon Krier, architect, theorist, urban planner and anti-modernist — the last of which isn’t necessarily, you know, a bad thing. In Krier’s case, it entails advocating for the traditional “European” city model, i.e., the pre-automotive city, complete with walkable neighborhoods, a variety of job types and housing options, and classical — or conservative, depending on your perspective — building design. These are all elements of the New Urbanism movement, in which Krier is an influential figure. And next Tuesday, he’s coming to the Pasadena Convention Center to talk about all these fun things, courtesy of Pasadena Heritage. Not convinced? Did I mention his hair is awesome?
