A Phoenix Risen: Uptown Downtown at the Pasadena Playhouse

The Playhouse was always going to survive—you can’t have a Playhouse District without a Playhouse, right? Right: the grand reopening was a month ago, with Ed Asner in FDR. Their second show is another one-performer piece: Uptown Downtown, in which the Tony-winning Leslie Uggams musically recounts her winding road to success, from Sing Along with Mitch to Hallelujah, Baby! to Roots and beyond. The show played earlier this year at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Opening night is this Friday, which means previews are this week. For a limited time (isn’t it always?) you can buy a pre-fixe dinner at Elements with your preview ticket (if you’re sitting in the Orchestra or Front Gallery, that is). Just enter the code UDED70 if buying online, or mention it when you call the box office. Since details no longer seem to be available on the website, here is the menu:
