“Five Centuries of Two Guitars” is just a fancy way of saying classical guitar duets. Or more precisely, performances by a duo: the Odeum Guitar Duo. The Odeum Guitar Duo is Robert Wetzel and Fred Benedetti. They’ll be playing their very old music—works by Dowland, Lawes, Carulli, Mozart, Houghton, Albéniz, Granados and de Falla—on slightly less old guitars, both constructed by Cordoba’s Miguel Rodriguez, considered by many to be the 20th century’s great guitar luthier, which is a fancy word for someone who makes or repairs stringed instruments. Not exactly dueling banjos we’re talking about here. If you’ve never heard Granados, do yourself a favor and visit the Norton Simon this Friday.
