The Hamptons have arrived in Sierra Madre, thanks to this upscale foodie spot, where the owner is friendly enough to accept marriage proposals. (We asked her to marry us after tasting her baked goods.) She does all her own baking, so you might as well just give in and order the treats first. We may never forget a recent vanilla cupcake – it was still warm, not to mention moist, buttery, eggy and pretty. Aside from sweets, there are great paninis, a fantastic green salad with semi-dried pear tomatoes, sublime cheese-filled risotto cakes, and crunchy cold broccollini peppered with garlic slices.
Ugo’s is a small spot, with railcar-style seating for twelve inside and umbrella-shaded tables on the sidewalk. It’s also a good place to pick up a fancy takeout dinner.
