King’s Row: Shave the Date

Nov 1, 2012

A pig roast on the patio and a complimentary shave.

Fascinating combination, and it’s all part of King’s Row Gastropub‘s “Movember.”

To all the men out there, come on down, take a seat, and get a shave—so that the rest of the month you can “groom, trim, and wax your way into the annals of fine moustachery.”

This self-sacrifice and effort is to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, particularly prostate and testicular cancer. The Movember movement, now in 14 different countries, raised $126.3 million dollars in 2011. The monies go to programs and events to increase awareness and education, and is donated to such organizations as the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LiveSTRONG.

To support Movember, King’s Row has deemed November 1st “Shave the Date” day and invited 18/8 men’s salon to shave King’s Row’s noble team—as well as any willing customers.

The local micro-brewery Eagle Rock Brewery is the gastropub’s month-long sponsor; you’ll have a delicious brew on hand while you listen to the pig roasting on the spit. For $10 you can even buy a commemorative Movember mug and return with it for the rest of the month to receive $1 off all beers.

A week from today, on November 8th, King’s Row will host a Beer Foam Moustache Contest: “Grab your mug of beer foam, finagle the best upperlip adornment, and win prizes!”

There will be a keg of Deschutes Black Butte XXIV being tapped that evening, a brew of which only 7 gallons are made. It is brewed using cocoa nibs, locally roasted coffee and aged in whiskey barrels. So come and get it; and test your foam moustache prowess.
