It’s foodie soup today. A little of this and a little of that, all in one post.
1. The Spot Gourmet, 1936 W. Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale 91201. 818. 861.7335
From appetizers like Moroccan spiced shrimp with pomegranate aioli and beef empanadas, the delicious-sounding beef Wellington served with a porcini cream sauce, to individual chocolate whiskey cakes or a gum drop bundt cake with brandied crème Anglaise, The Spot Gourmet has dishes to help the holidays be a tad less stressful. See their full menu here.
La Monarca Bakery’s skilled team of bakers creates a variety authentic Mexican cakes, pastries and breads from scratch, using traditional proprietary recipes perfected over the last 50 years, with only top quality fresh, natural ingredients. When they open, in addition to their traditional pastries, they’ll be offering Rosca de Reyes, just in time for Dia de Reyes on January 6, which commemorates the arrival of the three wise men. Each cake contains a baby Jesus hidden inside. They’ll be taking special orders for the full cake as soon as they open, but will also be selling the cake by the slice to guests who join them before the holiday.
3. Need a bit of a cleanse before the holiday’s eating extravaganza or a healthy drink alternative for kids and adults? Shila Moran has just launched The Real Juice (323.212.5211), with a whole cleanse program and individual juices like “Replenish” with carrots, apples, beets, oranges, pineapple, and parsley or “Energize” with kale, cucumbers, apples, celery, and lemon, all cold-pressed with the Norwalk juicer (which is supposed to extract more juice, more enzymes, and more nutrients).
