If you never trust a skinny cook, you’ll be drawn to this gem for the name alone. It’s a post-ironic title for a sensual vegetarian/vegan restaurant that cooks some seriously delicious food and has fun doing it. This is the place to bring your friends who distrust vegetarian cooking; Fatty’s specializes in rich, eclectic, exotic, and elegant, and the kitchen delights in witty juxtapositions. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, the wine is well-selected and well-priced, available in flights or “glass-and-a-half’s,” and they make some yummy sake-based cocktails. The food is outstanding – a tightly composed menu, from soup to dessert, a feast for the senses that includes tapas, salads, pizza, entrees, and fondues. Most items can be made vegetarian or vegan. Especially good: vegetarian dumplings, huge homemade potato chips with two kinds of dip, and the sticky and decadent pinky cake.
