Eat My Blog was begun by Cathy Chaplin, a Pasadena resident who authors the food blog Gastronomy Blog. She and Laurie Moore of G-ma’s Bakery founded their charity bake sale in 2009 so that local food bloggers could join and give back to the community. Since their first bake sale, Eat My Blog has raised and donated over $12,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
Michael Flood, president of the food bank, wrote “Your gift allows us to secure and distribute nutritious food such as fruits and vegetables and staples. Each dollar you donate allows the Food Bank to provide enough food for four meals.” And that is an incredible bang for your buck in return for savoring a coconut milk tres leche cake from Echo Park’s Xoia or an Oreo-stuffed chocolate chip cookies from Esi Impraim of Dishing Up Delights. Also for sale will be brand-spanking new copies of EAT: Los Angeles 2012, donated by our publisher to support the cause.
Another food-focused event coming to Pasadena for the first time is Artisanal LA‘s 2nd Annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop at the Armory Center for the Arts. Fifty local artisanal vendors (including the Altadena Urban Farmers’ Market) will have goods to buy, and samples to intrigue and entice.
Joseph Shuldiner’s Institute of Domestic Technology (he’s the Eat LA designer!) will have demonstrations and classes running all day; the Market on Holly will have offer organic spirits, craft beer, local wine and coffee sampling; and Honest Tea will have complimentary beverages.
Eating amazing foods, learning about food, buying locally handmade foods—it is truly a food-lovers’ dream this Saturday and Sunday. Mark your calendars; the weekend’s booked!
