Americana Street Feast

Jun 13, 2010

Blended beef and pork sliders from Flying Pig.

Once again, the Americana is playing truck-stop for some of the hottest gourmet food trucks on the road: the Worldfare Bustaurant, The Buttermilk Truck, The Grilled Cheese TruckCoolhaus, Vizzi, Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck, Patty Wagon, Mandoline Grill and Flying Pig. Buttermilk (breakfasty goodies), Coolhaus (ice cream sandwiches) and Grilled Cheese (duh) are established powers, while Vizzi (fusion), World Fare (fusion), Mandoline Grill (Vietnamese) and Flying Pig (Frenchified Asian/Pacific Rim flavors) are all on the up-and-up—the latter was just featured in Food & Wine. Also, World Fare is not a truck but, in fact, a double-decker bus with upstairs seating, which is cool. We don’t know much about Patty Wagon or Chef Brian’s Comfort Truck, but if they can be judged by the company they keep, they can’t be terrible.

The event is not only a street feast but a street sale, meaning there are “special discounts” for shoppers, as well as happy-hour deals for patrons of plain-old brick-and-mortar type restaurants.  And there’ll be a DJ and a raffle. Be warned, though: at the last Street Feast, lines were absurdly long, even by food truck standards. Going to the mall on Tuesday nights is the official civic pastime of Glendale, it turns out.
