I Was Told There’d Be Cake

toldcakeColleen’s Fun Read for Summer
I’ll pay any sum for a truly funny book, so to pay a mere $14 for the funniest book I’ve read in several years was a gift of grand proportions. Every single reviewer has compared young New York essayist Sloane Crosley — favorably — to David Sedaris, so I’m not going to do that. (Except I just did.) Instead, I’ll say that Crosley shares about both her pony problem and her failed quest to have a one-night stand. And her account of being a more-than-reluctant maid of honor is the funniest bridesmaid tale you will ever read.

I Was Told There’d Be Cake, by Sloane Crosley ($14)
