"Our History is Our Strength"

Mar 5, 2012
March is Women’s History Month. A good thing in ,and of, itself. As I mentioned yesterday, we hold up half the sky so it seems like a good idea to recognize the contributions and works of women.
Their opening paragraph shares that in “…1980, the National Women’s History Project (NWHP) was founded in Santa Rosa, California by Molly Murphy MacGregor, Mary Ruthsdotter, Maria Cuevas, Paula Hammett, and Bette Morgan to broadcast women’s historical achievements”.

This same group led a coalition that lobbied Congress to designate March 8th as Women’s History Day and March as National Women’s History Month.
They do a great deal of work with very little staff. And yet they send out 100,000 catalogs, their website has 1,000,000 hits and answer over 2,500 emails and letters.
Again to quote their website on their history: “We promote a multicultural women’s history perspective by honoring women of diverse cultural, ethnic, occupational, racial, class, and regional backgrounds”.
Check it out for yourself, you may be pleasantly surprised at the depth of the work they’ve done. I know I learn something every time I visit the site.
